Candidates for the PPSP Administrative Assistant volunteer position must be passionate about providing social services to pet owners in need. This person must also be able to maintain the flow of incoming food and supply requests and will report to the Community Resource Coordinator. Responsibilities of this position include writing correspondence, engaging with the public, data entry, managing and distributing information to program staff, and maintaining records of people/resources/partners/food served. Candidates must enjoy working solo and with a team in an office environment, must maintain professionalism at all times, as well as possess a strong work ethic, and good attention to detail.

Potential for remote work

Availability:

  • Wednesdays & Fridays
    • 10am - 12pm & 11am - 2pm
  • Possibility for remote work

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Available to all volunteer levels
  • Attended our New Volunteer Orientation
  • Minimum of 1-year administrative experience is preferred
  • Experience in social work is preferred
  • Must be honest and trustworthy
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Must have basic math skills
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Must be able to navigate and operate Google Suite
  • Must be comfortable interacting with the public
  • Must be comfortable soliciting donations and services
  • Must be a self-starter and problem solver
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Must be respectful toward animals and people

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Self-direct tasks as outlined by the PPSP Coordinator
  • Conduct research as needed
  • Solicit donations and services from businesses
  • Maintain records of people/resources/partners/food served
  • Help groups prepare for their food drive and coordinate a drop-off time
  • Help maintain food donation and recipient logs
  • Contact Pet Food Pantry requestees to confirm orders
  • Must commit to at least 2 volunteer shifts per month
  • Other tasks as assigned

In addition to possessing the required skills and education requirements, candidates with English-Spanish bilingual linguistic capabilities would be preferred.

The Animal Care League is a limited admission shelter located in Oak Park. We help homeless cats, dogs and other small animals by providing them food, shelter, medical attention and love until we can find them a loving home. As a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we depend on the generosity of our communities to help us meet our goals of finding new homes for as many animals as possible each year.
