We’re in need of empathetic and hard-working volunteers who can assist us with the logistics of distributing pet food to those in need. In addition to coordinating care package deliveries, PPSP Administrative Assistants will help community members in need of other support services such as veterinary care, pet fees, grooming, training services, yard fencing, etc., by following up with respondents about these needs. Additionally, this volunteer will help maintain food and donation log receipts, solicit donations, and conduct research as needed.
Candidates for the PPSP Administrative Assistant volunteer position must be passionate about providing social services to pet owners in need. This person must also be able to maintain the flow of incoming food and supply requests and will report to the Executive Director. This is expected to be a fast-paced position with responsibilities that include writing correspondence, engaging with the public, data entry, managing and distributing information to program staff, and maintaining records of people/resources/partners/food served. Candidates must enjoy working solo and with a team in an office environment, must maintain professionalism at all times, as well as possess a strong work ethic, and good attention to detail.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Available to all volunteer levels
Attended our New Volunteer Orientation
Completed Shelter Safety Training
Minimum of 1-year administrative experience is preferred
Experience in practical social work is preferred
Attend Event Orientation (after 30 hours of service)
Must be comfortable with working remotely and/or physically being in the shelter, depending on candidate’s preference
Must be honest and trustworthy
Excellent organizational skills
Must have basic math skills
Must have basic computer skills
Must be able to navigate and operate Google Suite operating systems
Must be comfortable with interacting with the public
Must be comfortable with soliciting donations and services
Must be a self-starter and problem solver
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
Must be respectful toward animals and people
Roles and Responsibilities:
Self-direct tasks as outlined by the Volunteer Coordinator
Conduct research as needed
Conduct several mediums of correspondence
Maintain records of people/resources/partners/food served
Coordinate and distribute information to program staff
Maintain the flow of incoming food and supply requests
Maintain food donation and recipient logs
Contact Pet Food Pantry requestees to confirm the frequency of need
Advocate our mission, values, and services to members of our community
Solicit donations from businesses
Must commit to at least 4 volunteer shifts per month
Other tasks as assigned
In addition to possessing the required skills and education requirements, candidates with English-Spanish bilingual linguistic capabilities would be preferred.

The Animal Care League is a limited admission shelter located in Oak Park. We help homeless cats, dogs and other small animals by providing them food, shelter, medical attention and love until we can find them a loving home.
