Looking for a nutrition expert to assist in creating a nutritionally sound long-term meal plan for our school in southwestern Kenya (East Africa).
NTS a not-for-profit 3-year vocational school located in the Nyamboyo Village in southwestern Kenya. We provide professional, technical education to the economically disadvantaged teens and young adults of the community. Our students are ages 14-20 and all have family histories of chronic food insecurity.
In Kenya, public schools do not provide meals. This means that students go an entire school day without food and learn to live with chronic hunger. At Nyamboyo Technical School, we are changing this paradigm. Prior to school closing for the pandemic, we provided our students with two full meals and two snacks daily. However, we have learned that many of our students do not get an evening meal at home. In response, we want to increase our food offerings and ensure that every student receives full required nutrition for proper growth and development. We are looking for someone with knowledge of locally available and affordable food staples.
-Evaluate current food offerings for strengths and weaknesses -Develop a long-term and affordable meal plan increasing nutritional value and variety, where possible -Recommend vitamin and mineral supplements and how to access, as needed -Assist in developing overall outline for nutrition education for students and parents
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.

Nyamboyo Technical School is transforming young lives, families and communities through vocational education and economic opportunity in Nyamboyo, Kenya.
Nyamboyo Technical is a 3-year vocational school with an entrepreneurial bent! Located in Nyamboyo Village in south-western Kenya, we provide professional, technical education to the economically disadvantaged teens and young adults of the community. They become certified professionals in technical fields where there is growing demand for skilled employees and new businesses. Students also learn business management by running enterprises within the school. In Jan 2020, we launched the first student-led business, selling kerosene.
Ultimately, we are building a positive, prosperous future for our youth, as employees, small business owners, and serial entrepreneurs!
NTS is led by Executive Director, Jones Obiria, a native of Nyamboro, who founded the school because he felt an obligation to lead after he, himself was able to escape poverty through the gift of education. Here in the U.S., a small, dedicated team of two are working to help raise awareness and funds for NTS. In Jones’ words "People save their own lives. Our job is to provide the opportunity. I hope you will join our journey."
