ORGANIZATION: BUILD REPAIR GROW

Build Repair Grow (BRG), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is seeking a Grants and Fundraising Chair who can help take our organization to the next level. The Grants and Fundraising Chair will be our chief fundraising and grant strategist and oversee these efforts.

BRG teaches young people how to grow and cook food, basic carpentry, sewing, and bike repair. We provide young people with training in practical skills critical for building individual resiliency, problem-solving, and self-sufficiency while promoting community health. Our programs were developed with a focus on in-person, hands-on learning, but due to the current pandemic, we have pivoted to a take home project kit program called BRG in a Box which includes online instructional videos. Learn more about our organization and programs at www.buildrepairgrow.org

Incorporated in February of 2020, BRG has established the organizational, strategic and intellectual infrastructure to plan and launch no-cost and low-cost programs throughout Western Mass. As our organization prepares to move past the initial start up phase and scale up our activities, seek major funding, and hire staff, we need an experienced development leader to ensure our organization can raise the funds needed to fulfill our mission and program goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience serving on a nonprofit board or as a development professional
  • Demonstrated success in launching fundraising campaigns
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining grant funding
  • Experience with donor cultivation, donor management/communications, major donors and family foundations, corporate giving, and/or other fundraising campaign practices
  • Experience with grant writing and research
  • Familiarity with the Massachusetts fundraising landscape
  • Passion for BRG’s mission to teach practical skills to young people

Duties and Responsibilities

Note that this position requires a significant time commitment, potentially up to several hours per week. As BRG grows and is able to hire staff, the Grants and Fundraising Chair would have the option to transition from a volunteer Board position into a paid staff position.

The Grants and Fundraising Chair will

  • Lead the development of a fundraising plan and strategy that balances individual giving, corporate giving, grant funding and/or other strategies
  • Direct the creation and execution of fundraising campaigns, in collaboration with BRG interns or other volunteers
  • Direct the creation of donor communications and materials, in collaboration with the Board Communications Chair, BRG interns, or other volunteers
  • Oversee grant research, writing, and application submission, in collaboration with BRG interns or other volunteers
  • Serve as a member of the Board of Directors
  • Other duties of responsibilities as may be delegated by the Board

Additionally, as a Board member, the Grants and Fundraising Chair would be expected to

  • Regularly attend board meetings and important related meetings (typically once a month)
  • Make a serious commitment to participate actively in the organization, including volunteering for, willingly accepting, and completing assignments that match their skillset in a timely and thorough manner
  • Stay informed about BRG matters, including preparing for meetings and thoughtfully reviewing minutes and reports
  • Build a collegial working relationship with the Executive Director and other Board members that contributes to productive discussion and consensus
