ORGANIZATION: HomePlate Youth Services

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 40 people are interested

HomePlate Youth Services serves youth experiencing homelessness and housing instability in washington county. The COVID-19 pandemic has enhanced the socio-economic struggle of those most vulnerable in our community. With so many services closing, we are doing our best to ensure that the most vulnerable are still able to get access to the basic resources that they need.

This opportunity is held once a week on Thursdays in Hillsboro.

Every Thursday we hold a Drop-In where youth can get access to a multitude of resources and get their basic needs met. One of those needs is the need for a healthy meal.

This is an opportunity for a group of volunteers. We strongly suggest that you form your own group (friends, family, co-workers, teammates, etc.).

Meal groups purchase, prepare and serve food for 35-50 young people.

Supplying dinners each week is our biggest need. Meals must serve about 35-50 people. Youth, volunteers, and staff all share this meal together.

Dinner volunteers will prepare a main dish, a vegetarian version of that dish, and a beverage, juice, milk, water are all great options, but no soda please!
Dessert, bread, and salads are welcome but optional.
This is suitable for a volunteer group of 4-8 people.

Dinner groups purchase everything for the meal, cook it on site in our kitchens, and serve it to the youth.

Leftovers are given to youth. We would rather have too much food than not enough. Meal groups are able to prep in our kitchens from 3:45pm - 5:45pm on Thursdays, unless they have access to a commercially certified kitchen and can prep at another time. Otherwise, all meals need to be prepped on site as required by the washington county health department.

COVID-19 Guidelines
  • Groups must be no larger than 6 people.
  • All group members must wear a mask while preparing food.
  • If you have had a cough, fever or loss of smell/taste in the last 10 days, you will be asked to re-schedule.
  • Gloves must be worn during meal preparation and changed regularly.
