ORGANIZATION: Your Future Is Our Business

Your Future Is Our Business is a Santa Cruz County non-profit that provides programs to help students explore careers. We are aiming to bridge the gap from education to careers by giving students the chance to hear from someone who has experience in the field who can provide valuable context and connection to what they are learning in the classroom.

Due to COVID-19, we have shifted to hosting virtual activities (career expos, panels, and speakers). We are looking for inspiring adults to talk to youth about what they do for a living so that students are informed about what careers exist and what each career entails! All opportunities currently take place online via Zoom or Google Meet. Activities are typically 1 hour or shorter, unless otherwise stated.

Priority goes to Santa Cruz County Current or Former Residents and Bay Area residents

Students' Career Interests:
Graphic Designers, videographers, photographers, construction workers, Veterinarians, small business owners, wildlife & marine biologists, computer scientists, engineering (environmental), ALL information technology and computer science careers, ALL HEALTHCARE CAREERS.

If you don't see your career here, no worries, just let us know what career(s) you've had.

If you would like to participate, send us an email with your full name, job title, and a brief explanation of your background (or Linkedin page) and what connection you have to Santa Cruz County or nearby neighboring counties (i.e. former resident or currently living in Watsonville).

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide every Santa Cruz County student with opportunities to discover a fulfilling and successful career. In the modern, shifting workplace, students need to make informed decisions that empower them to forge careers. We bring schools and businesses together to support students in becoming Santa Cruz County’s next generation of workers. It’s all about providing young people clear direction in their lives.

Description

We implement work-based learning, the educational strategy providing students with real-life experiences and the opportunity to improve their academic and technical skills while developing their employability. Our work includes building a countywide network of community leaders and businesses who see the talent and potential in our students. With this incredible support, we host monthly career panels and expos at various schools, ranging from K-12th grade. Students receive a real-world setting along with practical advice on planning a career path. We are fully staffed by post-secondary interns, supervised by an executive director, all coordinating together to successfully run a non-profit organization.
