Downtown Streets Team is working to end homelessness through the dignity of work. Our Teams empower people who are experiencing or at risk for homelessness to be a part of their own solution by giving them work experience in the form of community beautification.
As colder weather sets in across the country, no one is more impacted than the people who are living outside, exposed to the elements. With your help, we can give the gift of warmth to those who need it the most. These blankets are easy and cheap to make and they make a HUGE difference to someone living outside in the cold. Watch the video linked below to learn how to make them. Then gather your materials, a group of friends (or just yourself!), and get tying! It's the perfect activity to keep you busy while watching some Netflix on a chilly day.
When you've finished making your blanket(s), send an email to sarah@streetsteam.org to coordinate mailing or delivering the blankets to Downtown Streets Team. We will distribute them to our Team Members and folks we meet while conducting outreach.

Downtown Streets Team's mission is to build Teams that restore dignity, inspire hope, and provide a pathway to recover from homelessness. Team Members volunteer their time to help beautify their community, and in exchange for their work they receive employment specialist and case management services to help them meet their goals, as well as a non-cash stipend to help them cover basic needs as they get back on their feet. We believe that the dignity our Teams provide is a powerful tool to motivate Team Members to be a part of their own solution. In the words of one of our Team Members, DST is a win-win-win situation: it's a win for the Team Member, a win for the community, and a win for the environment. Come join us in breaking down barriers and ending homelessness one day at a time!
