ORGANIZATION: CIVIC WORKS

civ.works logo

Zapata County, TX had one of the most remarked on shifts of vote count in the country. The AskTheVoters project would like to verify and understand the reasons for the shift.

Volunteers will survey individuals in one or two selected precincts, asking them to anonymously verify their vote (using a specially designed app), and will engage in a short conversation about voters reasons and needs.

Ask the Voters is a nonpartisan project and undertakes similar surveys at the request of candidates or organizations regardless of any party affiliation. (Though we have limited resources and cannot guarantee to fulfill all requests, we can also advise groups on how to undertake a similar survey themselves)

The goals of this project are

1) to audit and verify vote totals as a way of ensuring the integrity of our elections

2) to increase understanding of the needs and values of the residents of local areas

This is a one-week project, but it is not necessary for volunteers to participate all the days. We do ask that volunteers plan to spend at least 4 hours on the project over the course of the week.

Mission Statement

We created civ.works as a platform for all of us to work together to overcome the corrupting influence of money in politics. Together we can address bad policy, legislation and to hold all of our elected officials accountable. For democracy to work -our government must represent "We the People". civ.works: Together. We can.

Description

civ.works is a privacy protected social platform built for meaningful civic action.

The concept of civ.works is to finally provide a societal machine to stand up against something created nearly 50 years ago -and begin the process of empowering citizens again.
