- BEING A CASA VOLUNTEER -
Our winter training will be held in February 2025 - attending one of our info sessions is the first step!
CASA of Monterey County is seeking strong-hearted volunteers to:
1. Advocate for a foster child both in court and in the community
2. Be one of the few stable adults in that child's life as they face the challenges of foster care
REQUIREMENTS:
- 21 years of age or over
- Commitment to a child a minimum of 18 months/ 10-16 hrs per month
- Be able to pass a thorough background check
CASA of Monterey County provides comprehensive volunteer training and staff support needed for you to succeed in this very special & rewarding form of giving back to your community!
Please note, the youth we work with do not go to your homes. As a volunteer, you meet with them, get to know them, and let the dependency court judge know how their lives are truly going under the guidance of CASA staff. CASA is not an adoption or placement agency.

Description
CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocates - is a nationwide organization that provides a volunteer advocate for children in the foster care system. Volunteer advocates are the voice representing the child's best interests in court and other public forums about the individual child. Advocates also form an ongoing relationship with the child. By getting to know the child individually, the advocate is better equipped to represent the child in all case-related matters. Often the CASA Advocate is the only consistent relationship the child has ever had.
CASA Advocates receive 35 hours of pre-service training, which includes understanding the dependency court process, the foster care system, and, most importantly, how to work with a child and be their voice. Upon completing training, the new advocate is assigned to an experienced and highly supportive CASA staff person known as an Advocate Supervisor. The Advocate Supervisor provides on-going support and training on all case-related matters.
