INTERESTED CANDIDATES MUST APPLY AT THIS LINK. Application is 2 parts: https://bit.ly/HFPreScreener

We're looking for a diverse set of film fans to help us choose the films for the 2024 Academy Award-qualifying Indy Shorts Film Festival in July and the Heartland Intl Film Festival in October.

In this virtual position, volunteer pre-screeners thoughtfully view and identify films of interest to the Heartland Film programming staff by watching film submissions and writing short assessments for each one. The Heartland Film programming staff carefully selects applicants based on their knowledge and interest in film and their strength in writing and film analysis.

Committee volunteers will receive festival ticket/fest pass benefits based on the number of films they have reviewed at the end of the pre-screening period.

Mission Statement

Heartland Film is a nonprofit arts organization founded in 1991 with the mission to inspire filmmakers and audiences through the transformative power of film. Heartland Film is a curator and supporter of purposeful filmmaking, honoring a wide variety of cinema and awarding storytellers from all over the world. The films we select and exhibit - whether they inspire and uplift, educate and inform, or have the ability to shift audiences’ perspectives on the world - all have one thing in common: they are entertaining films that do more than just entertain.

Description

Every October, the Heartland Film Festival gives its moviegoers access to more than 200 visiting independent filmmakers from around the world, right in the heart of the Midwest. Celebrating its 30th Anniversary in 2021, Heartland Film Festival (October 6-16, 2022) showcases more than 200 independent films over 11 days of red carpet premieres and events, parties and hundreds of film screenings across Indianapolis.

In 2018, the Heartland Film Festival expanded to an all-new shorts fest, Indy Shorts Film Festival (July 19-24, 2022), which has earned the special designation of being a qualifying festival for the Annual Academy Awards within the Live Action Short, Documentary Short, and Animated Short categories. Each year, HFF and Indy Shorts awards a combined total of $100,000 in cash prizes. Since 1992, Heartland Film has awarded more than $3.1 million to support indie filmmakers.

Beyond the festivals, Heartland Film honors theatrically-released films that align with its mission via the Truly Moving Picture Award and exhibits films in the greater Indianapolis area throughout the year.
