Pet Therapy Hospice Volunteer
ORGANIZATION: Transitions Hospice, LLC
Please visit the new page to apply.
Pet therapy hospice volunteers offer companionship and stress relief to hospice patients suffering from terminal illnesses. Close proximity to animals has been proven to reduce blood pressure and anxiety, and provide comfort to patients. Pet therapists are often state certified handler-and-pet teams; however, even uncertified, well-trained animals may be permitted to visit with patients.
We are encouraging all volunteers to observe physical distancing, hand-washing, and masking guidelines. However, the CDC states that, at this time, there is no evidence that animals play a significant role in spreading the virus that causes COVID-19. Because of this, the Transitions Hospice team feels that this is a wonderful opportunity to recruit pet therapy volunteers, and to raise awareness of this specific type of volunteer.
Volunteers are needed in Polk, Dallas, Hickory, St. Clair, Greene, and Cedar counties in Missouri, so if you are interested in becoming a pet therapy volunteer, you may apply by calling 417-777-2703.
