Cities - Priority Lead
AZSA Mission
To create and support cutting-edge, project-based sustainability solutions in Arizona
Mission - Cities
Support city staff to be able to achieve their sustainability goals
Objectives - City Liaisons
- Build relationships with key city officials to support sustainability efforts within the city that relate to AZSA’s priorities (urban forestry, sustainable food systems, renewable energy, and conservation)
- Support existing city initiatives
- Develop new opportunities
Role Purpose
The Cities - Priority Lead and Co-Lead oversee all of AZSA’s City Liaisons (all volunteers). Works with the Executive Director to ensure City Liaisons are able to support AZSA’s efforts to advance sustainability in cities.
Responsibilities
- Manage City Liaisons to ensure that they are building connections with city staff and assisting AZSA priorities in developing new projects and maintaining existing projects in our four priority areas (urban forestry, sustainable food systems, renewable energy, and conservation)
- Attend meetings/presentations with City Liaisons to present city staff information about AZSA
- Attend meetings/presentations with City Liaisons to understand the needs of the cities for sustainability
- Train City Liaisons how to open communications, build relationships, pitch the AZSA brand, etc. with city officials
- Ensure accountability of city liaisons
- Backup City Liaisons as needed
Ideal Skill Set
- Outstanding leadership and organizational skills; you are a relationship builder who "manages by influence"
- Able to prioritize, meet deadlines, and handle multiple assignments
- Experience training individuals to represent an organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
- Poised and polished professional who will be comfortable representing AZSA at a high level and in meetings with city officials
- Advanced presentation skills
- Knowledge of sustainability topics or the ability to learn
- Ability to read and understand government documents at the city, county, and state level
Time Commitment
- Approximately 5-10 hours per week
- Must have some availability during the workweek for meetings with city officials
All AZSA positions are remote, with periodic fieldwork and other necessary in-person activities specific to the particular position.
