Embrace Life!
Be a Sunflower Hospice Volunteer.

Do you have a talent to share?

A contagious passion for just about anything?

Would you like an appreciative audience?

Want an easy way to make a big impact in someone's life?

Join our team of upbeat, big-hearted people who are dedicated to bringing peace to those with terminal illnesses.

Now that COVID-19 is part of our lives, we are reaching out to our patients and families from a distance. Distance volunteering options will continue to be available to our volunteers, even if COVID-19 is no longer a concern.

Our volunteers are welcomed as respected members of the care team, whether they have a desire to help from a distance, or (when we are no longer in "pandemic mode") in the office, walk a patient's dog, garden, help patients write letters, sing/read to them, or just offer a friendly ear. Whether they work "up close and personal", or prefer to stay behind the scenes, we are happy to work around our volunteers' schedules.

Currently, training is done in the office or via Zoom. Training is informative, easy, and fun. It is designed to give volunteers the tools to be confident and comfortable working with our patients.

Death can actually be a beautiful process, given the right circumstances.

Having the gift of foresight that the end of their life is near, many people can finally make sense of their life story. Peace can be made with people and circumstances that have had a profound impact on individuals. Many who are in the process of dying have a unique perspective on what it means to be alive. We want to help them find meaning in every moment that they still have. We take our mission seriously, but we also have fun while partnering with our patients on their journey.

As your volunteer coordinator, I look forward to helping you add a meaningful, rewarding facet to your life!

Mission Statement

Sunflower Hospice’s mission is to provide an individualized program of physical, emotional, spiritual and practical care for people in the last phases of a life-limiting illness, with emphasis on control of pain and other symptoms. Sunflower Hospice is reflective of a spirit and idea of caring that emphasizes comfort and dignity for the dying, making it possible for them to remain independent for as long as possible, and in familiar surroundings. Sunflower Hospice is centered on both the patient and family/caregiver. Hospice personnel respect and respond to the unique differences in patient and family/caregiver, lifestyle, values and wishes.
