Hosparus Health of Barren River is seeking volunteers in Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, and Warren counties to provide companionship and respite visits to patients/families. Patient support volunteers will have the opportunity to visit with a patient to provide companionship, relieve loneliness, and share interests. The key task of a patient volunteer is simply to provide presence. During your visit you will often sit, chat with patients, and may play games, cards, or even read to a patient. As a volunteer you may be visiting a patient who does not have friends or family, or visiting while family is present. Patients can live in private residences, assisted living facilities, and long term care facilities. Volunteers are required to have received the COVID vaccine. From November 1st to March 31st, volunteers must have received a flu shot.

Hosparus Health volunteers must be in good health, have available transportation, and complete an application and required training. The organization needs volunteers of all ages and interests. Volunteers must be 18 years of age and older. Volunteer opportunities will be on-going as long as the volunteer remains compliant with necessary requirements. Applicants can be completed here: hosparushealth.org/volunteers/

Volunteers may live in any of the 10 counties listed above. Volunteers will have the opportunity to travel to any of the counties listed, but can choose assignments where they would feel most comfortable.
