National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Colorado

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation's largest grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of both people living with serious mental illness and the families of those individuals.

Interested in mental health awareness and passionate about reducing stigma? Do you want to get more involved with NAMI Colorado and NAMIWalks? Do you have connections to the black community? Then we need you.

NAMI Colorado offers virtual support groups and classes for people with mental health challenges and for their families. We would like to support the black community and let them know that we have a presence all across Colorado, and that we are here for them.

We also have our annual NAMIWalks Colorado on May 22. We would love to have the black community involved with destigmatizing mental illness and showing support for mental health for all.

Mission Statement

The mission of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Colorado is to build communities of recovery and hope by educating, supporting, and advoating for individuals affected by mental illness and their families.

NAMI Colorado was founded in 1981 as a grassroots response to the first waves of de-institutionalization that shifted care for seriously mentally ill men and women and children from hospitals to the community. Family members came together to help each other cope with the devastating effects of mental illness and to insure that their loved ones receive the services they need for recovery. The importance of these goals is as critical today as it was at our founding. Today NAMI Colorado supports a network of 18 affiliates and support groups around the state and has approximately 2,500 members. We are the Colorado state affiliate of the national NAMI organization.
