Up to 40% of food feeds landfills while thousands of individuals are hungry and food insecure in Massachusetts. That’s where Rescuing Leftover Cuisine steps in. Become FOOD RESCUER to rescue surplus food from businesses and deliver it to nonprofits that serve the underserved.

The purpose of our Paid Rescuer Positions is to complement our volunteer platform, enhance reliability, and increase our impact - while giving Rescuers the opportunity to cover necessary transportation expenses while earning extra income for your good deeds.

Compensation:

  • $12 per Rescue Event (pick up food at one business > deliver it to one nonprofit)
  • $6 per each additional stop (i.e. $15 for two pickups to one nonprofit)
    • Tip: it's most efficient to cover multiple Events back-to-back on the same day. By doing so, you can cut mileage and time in about half (i.e. 3 Rescue Events in about 1.5 hrs)

Responsibilities:

  • Paid Rescuer (PR) must follow our COVID-19 Eligibility & Guidelines.

  • Minimum Requirement to qualify as a Paid Rescuer: 2 or more Rescue Events per week for 4 or more weeks (ideally 5+ Rescues per week if possible).

  • How you can be a Paid Rescuer:

    • Sign up for the same Event(s) on a weekly recurring basis; and/or

    • "Save The Day" by signing up for Available Event(s) 48 hours or less in advance to fulfill Rescue Events that are not signed up for by Volunteer Rescuers;

    • Or both! There are no restrictions.

Skills & Qualifications:

    • Standard driver's license and vehicle
    • Smartphone and comfort using easy technology
    • Passion for food waste prevention and/or food justice
    • Strong organizational and oral communication skills
    • Ability to self-start, prioritize, and work independently without supervision
    • Reliable, dependable and punctual
    • Patient, flexible and positive attitude
