Do you have a passion for teaching adults?
PBALC needs volunteers to instruct our adult students in various areas of literacy: English as a second language, citizenship classes, digital literacy classes, grammar, reading and writing, and more. You do not need any special certifications, prior teaching experience, or second language skills. Permian Basin Adult Literacy Center provides training and constant support so that you and your student(s) will have everything you need for success!
Our literacy instructors teach small groups of no more than 12 adults at our literacy house in Midland and at our satellite locations in Odessa and Big Spring. Classes are usually held during our office hours Mon-Thursday and a staff member is always present to assist with any issues that may arise. Instructional content is determined by the type of class being taught, and resources for instruction are provided.
Please note- all volunteer instructors must be 18 or older. Volunteers will be required to fill out a volunteer application, pay a $38.00 criminal background check fee, and complete a volunteer orientation.

Description
Permian Basin Adult Literacy Center, Inc. (PBALC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The PBALC Adult Literacy Program is helping adults improve their own skills so that they may also have a positive and lifelong impact on the educational achievements of future generations. To address these needs, we provide three primary services, including: English Language Learning (ELL); Adult Education and Literacy (AEL - reading and writing skills); and Digital Literacy (DL). We assign literacy skill levels through program enrollment, goal setting, and testing, which enables us to provide materials and tutoring specific to each student. The PBALC staff maintains continuous contact with all students and provides support through progress checks, resources, and encouragement.
