During the pandemic, more families and individuals began to grow their own food, empowering themselves to slow down, connect to the earth, and nourish their own families. New Leaf Foods supports the health and well-being of the people of Greater Green Bay by promoting healthy food access and education and by cooperating throughout Northeast Wisconsin to build a thriving local food system in a clean environment. Specifically through our Garden Blitz program, we work to address healthy food access by gathering volunteers to build and install raised bed gardens throughout the community. To date, we have installed over 700 gardens in the Green Bay area! This year, we are dedicated to installing gardens for organizations that empower Black and Indigenous communities, as well as people living with disabilities. We feel passionately about continuing the momentum of the return of victory gardens, even long after the pandemic is not so prevalent in our lives. If you feel passionately about changing our food system, consider joining our team of volunteers. We can’t do it without you!
We are looking for community-minded individuals to mentor new gardeners in the 2021 growing season. To become a mentor gardener, you must:
- Complete mentorship training
- Establish a positive relationship with your mentee, and meet monthly throughout the growing season
If you have any questions, or would like to become a garden mentor, please reach out to Margaret Franchino at browncountycommunitygardens@gmail.com. You can learn more about us at newleaffoods.org. Thank you!
