About the Emerging Markets Investors Alliance ("the Alliance"): The Alliance is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization based in New York City that enables institutional investors to support good governance, promote sustainable development, and improve investment performance in emerging market governments and companies. The Alliance addresses issues including government budget transparency; energy and mining sector transparency; corporate governance; and environmental issues. To advance its mission, the Alliance (a) organizes presentations by non-profits and policy makers to educate emerging market investors on governance issues; (b) draws on the same expertise to produce policy papers on key governance issues to empower investors to become effective advocates; and (c) facilitates dialogue on improving governance between investors and their corporate and sovereign investments.
About the Volunteer Finance Director Opportunity: The Alliance is seeking a highly motivated volunteer, part-time Finance Director to join our efforts to promote sustainable investing in emerging markets on a part-time basis this fall. The Finance Director will have significant responsibilities for the planning, implementation, managing and running of all the finance activities, including business planning, budgeting, forecasting. The Finance Director role will include key elements of donor relations and partner/member compliance.
Key Finance Director Functions:
The Finance Director’s duties will include:
- Providing leadership, direction and management of finance and accounting service providers
- Providing strategic recommendations to the CEO/president and members of the executive management team
- Managing financial forecasting and budgets and overseeing the preparation of financial reporting
- Advising on long-term business and financial planning
- Establishing and developing relations with external partners and stakeholders
Finance Director Qualifications:
The successful Finance Director will have many of the following characteristics:
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or economics and an MBA or CPA.
- Experience in the Finance Department of a non-profit
- Demonstrated examples of excellence in the workplace and the exercise of sound judgement.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and written.
- Ability to engage with staff at all levels of the organization.
Timeframe, Location, and Compensation:
The volunteer role can begin at a time convenient for the selected candidate over the coming several months. The role would be a part-time position (1-2 days/week). The candidate may work remotely, though it would be ideal if s/he were available to visit Alliance headquarters in New York City occasionally.

Description
Issue Focus: The Alliance focuses on ensuring that (1) government revenues are used to deliver public services to citizens rather than siphoned off by corruption and (2) corporate practices meet high standards for anti-corruption, human rights and animal welfare, and environmental sustainability. In particular, the Alliance has the following work streams: (1) government debt and fiscal governance, (2) oil & mining sector, (3) agricultural sector, and (5) environmental/social/governance (ESG) integration into the investment process.
Activities: The Alliance’s primary activities include (1) organizing educational events for investors, (2) producing research on ESG issues, and (3) organizing forums where investors and policy experts can engage with corporate or government officials.
