ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - National Headquarters

This position supports the NHQ International Services Department (ISD) team. Specifically, this position supports the ISD mission by working alongside the team to develop department strategy around volunteer engagement and build department capacity.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise team on development and execution of ISD Volunteer Engagement Strategy
  • Provide consultation, coaching and training resources to promote positive workforce relationships (employees with volunteers, volunteers with volunteers) and effective ongoing volunteer engagement
  • Work with volunteer engagement team to build a community of practice among ISD volunteer supervisors (including employees and volunteers) to exchange knowledge from ISD and beyond with learning sessions and trainings
  • Advise units and supervisors on engaging effectively with American Red Cross Volunteer Services department
  • Help develop department knowledge and capacity in handling volunteer relations
  • Create doctrine for exit interviews for ISD volunteers
  • Consult with department managers on position on-boarding, planned growth experiences, and volunteer career development
  • Consult with department managers regarding the leadership potential of volunteers and supports requesting department managers in developing leadership and advancement opportunities for volunteers
  • Promote logging and approval of hours and effective use of GroupShares by ISD volunteers and volunteer supervisors
  • Coach and support other members of the ISD volunteer engagement team
  • Receive and manage incoming referrals for NHQ ISD open positions
  • Review incoming applicants to determine suitability for NHQ ISD positions
Qualifications:
  • Enthusiastic about Red Cross mission and programs - required
  • Demonstrated commitment to principle of voluntary service and to supporting an environment allowing mutually rewarding experience for volunteers and ISD- required
  • Proven leadership in non-profit or for-profit organizations - required
  • Knowledge of Red Cross services and operations and opportunities for volunteer service - required
  • Experience with volunteer engagement in the American Red Cross and knowledge of Volunteer Services - required
  • Experience with process improvement or change management - preferred
  • Cultural sensitivity and dexterity in collaborating with diverse stakeholders - required
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills - required
  • Prior experience with interviewing and onboarding - required
