Join our new and improved weekend foster program to help raise and train a service dog in training!
We are looking for committed and dedicated individuals to help IHDI train and raise the next generation of hearing dogs for an underserved population.
No financial commitment and no prior dog training needed, IHDI will give you all the tools, training, and supplies for a weekend foster stay. Extended stays are available. All training and ongoing support is provided.
For the weekend program, pick up your foster dog on Thursday evening or any time all day Friday with drop off on Monday morning. All transportation to and from our facility in Henderson will be the responsibility of the foster. IHDI asks each foster to fill out a detailed weekend (or weekly for extended fosters) report so our trainers can determine next steps in the dogs training.
A foster's role is to maintain the dog's training, make observations of the dog, and provide a safe and loving home for their stay.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
About International Hearing Dog, Inc.
5901 E 89th Ave, Henderson, CO 80640, US
International Hearing Dog, Inc. (IHDI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Henderson, Co. IHDI's mission is to empower individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing by purposefully training specially selected dogs to alert to sounds, carefully matching these dogs with handlers, and supporting the paired teams throughout the lifetime of the match.
Established in 1979, IHDI has placed a service hearing dog in all 50 states and in Canada. Our vision for the future is to increase awareness and understanding of the needs of the hearing impaired community and the critical role of hearing dogs. During the stay at home orders implemented by Colorado, all staff worked from home and while all dogs in training were fosters by volunteers and members of the community. We took this time to completely implement and improve all aspects of our program, mainly our foster program. Please join us in raising the next generation of hearing dogs for the Deaf and hard of hearing community.
