Do you have a Certified Pet Therapy animal? If so, we are looking for you!

The evidence of the human-animal bond has become increasingly evident through the benefits of Pet Therapy. Bonding and connecting with these special animal can positively enhance the mental, social and physical state of patients as they approach end-of-life. As a Pet Therapy hospice volunteer we have opportunities in various capacities that you can become involved with:

  • Patients in facilities
  • Patients in their homes
  • Outdoor visits
  • Visiting with Veterans
When you are a part of the Bristol Volunteer Team, you receive training, support, a network of fellow volunteers and staff, and the knowledge that you have comforted someone on their final journey..

Description

Our Bristol Hospice programs provide hospice services to meet the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of our patients and their families/caregivers. An interdisciplinary group of professionals and volunteers develops an individualized plan of care which includes, as appropriate, the following services: nursing, physicians, home health aides, counseling, spiritual support, therapy, dietary, volunteers, durable medical equipment, supplies, and bereavement services.

Specialty Programs: Guided by these values and research, Bristol Hospice is honored to be an innovator; utilizing non-pharmacological methods of comfort and going above & beyond what is expected by hospice care standards, through our specialty care programs. These Bristol programs, such as "Sweet Dreams" and "Bright Moments" are especially helpful to those struggling with the effects of Alzheimer’s or dementia. Through these programs, we hope to give "Light to Life" for each patient at their end-of-life. In so doing, we have the honor to provide additional methods of care, comfort and support for the patient, their families, caregivers and loved ones.

  • Your pet must be a certified therapy animal that has completed therapy animal training. Proof of certification is required. Background check, TB Screening required, and volunteer orientation required (all provided by Bristol Hospice).
