Organizational Purpose and Background
The Prescott Recreation Services Department is open every week day from 8AM to
4PM. The programming office is located at 824 East Gurley Street in Prescott, Arizona,
but the Recreation Services team works on multiple outdoor projects on public lands
across the city. The city has over 3000 acres of open space that it maintains and follows
safety procedures so that people from all over can enjoy the lands. These lands have
over 25 species of native plants. The mission of the Recreation Services Department is
to provide safe, well-maintained parks and public places, preserve historic resources,
strengthen the bonds of the community, and create opportunities for renewal, growth,
and enrichment.

The purpose of an AmeriCorps state member at this site is to expand the educational
use of this public space, increasing community engagement, and specifically support
playgrounds and trails within the City of Prescott.

I. Project Focus Areas and Activities
A. Trails Coordination: The member will assist in performing routine maintenance
on City of Prescott trails, open areas, and provide upkeep on property buildings.
They will help assist with the maintenance of play structures and coordinate
special events as needed.
B. Content Creation: The AmeriCorps members will create guides and lesson
plans to make City of Prescott parks and trails more educational for youth and
families. Guides and lesson plans will include but are not limited to identification
of plants, trees, bugs, and animals, exposure to park friendly games and sports,
and standards based curriculum to assist local teachers.
C. Workforce Development: The AmeriCorps member will shadow Recreation
Services staff in their essential job duties and functions to assess the opportunity
to pursue a career in the public sector.

●Access to reliable transportation preferred, but not an immediate barrier to
