Teach Spanish-Speakers Basic Computer Skills
ORGANIZATION: Aviva Family & Children's Services
Please visit the new page to apply.
WHAT: More kids are online schooling than ever, but not all guardians know how to help them with tech issues. Give Spanish-speaking guardians the tech-smarts they need to ensure their kids’ success. WHO: Aviva Famiy and Children's Services exists to uplift and serve LA families, especially during the hardships of the COVID-19 crisis. They specialize in services like crisis intervention, mental health, foster and adoption, and supportive housing for women and children. WHY: A big part of the achievement gap for Latinx students is lack of access to technology. If there are tech challenges, the child whose parent can help them navigate those is going to surpass the child whose parent cannot. You can help close the achievement gap for Latinx students by teaching Spanish-speaking guardians basic computer skills. THE VOLUNTEER PROJECT: In this virtual volunteer opportunity, you will assist Spanish-speaking parents with basic computer skills. A lesson will be instructed by the Project Leader, and then you’ll break out into small groups to mentor your partner(s) as they complete different activities. The whole group will then reassemble to discuss their experiences. LOCATION: Remote/virtual. ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Must be 21+ years old Spanish-speaking ability required Must be comfortable using internet, email, google suite, and social media QUESTIONS? Email the Opportunity Leader below.
