ORGANIZATION: BADGER HONOR FLIGHT

Job Purpose:

The Director of Volunteer Events and Communication is responsible for engaging volunteers, recruiting new volunteers, and promoting Badger Honor Flight through managing communications (web, social, press). This position also works with other Board members as needed, and appropriate, to contribute to special initiatives that engage our Veterans and Volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities:


The Director of Volunteer Events and Communication n is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Oversee Guardian Training Events including: securing a location, scheduling training, and coordinating volunteers to work at training, as well as other tasks to support Guardian
  • Schedule make-up training for guardians who are unable to attend the main training events. (Note: Aspects of Guardian Training may move online in the )
  • Oversee Flight Day Send-Off and Welcome Home Activities including: Working with Team Coordinators to ensure all activities are properly staffed, working with airport operations to ensure the facility is set-up as needed, acting as the point person if issues arise between or with volunteers, and serving as the liaison between Badger Honor Flight and airport operations if issues
  • Manage the volunteer database and other volunteer outreach tools (Volunteermark, Signupgenius, Volunteermatch)
  • Send regular communications to volunteers including: opportunities to volunteer, volunteer meeting minutes, and other communications as needed.
  • Disseminate monthly volunteer meeting invitation to volunteer list and set-up the meeting Zoom
  • Coordinate the Communications team and partner with them for communication opportunities including via web and social
  • Oversee regular and ongoing website
  • Partner with the Chair to disseminate press releases and facilitate media
Qualifications:

The Director of Volunteer Events and Communication must display the following skills:

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Interest in engaging and recruiting new volunteers and an outgoing personality
  • Proficiency in a variety of computer programs: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, as well as database management
  • Attention to detail

W orking Conditions:

This position currently provides their own phone, laptop computer and printer along with internet access and the ability to store documentation. BHF utilizes Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Acrobat Reader for daily tasks and communication.

BHF does not have a physical office, so daily support is provided remotely from the Board Member’s personal residence or office location.

Ability to travel on some flights as necessary.

Access to transportation for ability to travel to events, access to BHF storage, and other travel as needed.

This position is a volunteer, unpaid position requiring a 3-year commitment; 2 years as an active Board Member and up to 1-year in a support role to the new Board Member.

P hysical Requirements:

This position may be required to assist any Veteran on flight day. This may require him/her to meet the BHF guardian requirements.

Mission Statement

Badger Honor Flight is a regional affiliate of the National Honor Flight Network. The purpose of the Honor Flight Network is to ensure that World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War and terminally ill veterans from any war have the opportunity to see the memorials that have been erected in their honor. Badger Honor Flight provides all amenities to the veterans, including all transportation and meals on the day of the flight. Everything is free to the veterans because of how much they have sacrificed for this great country already.

Badger Honor Flight (BHF) is a regional hub of the Honor Flight Network (r).

Badger Honor Flight is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices and to transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans - World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill. There are currently 140 hubs in 45 states. BHF is currently accepting and flying World War II, Korean, and Vietnam War-era veterans. To date we have flown 39 flights from Madison, WI to Washington D.C., and just surpassed our 3000th Veteran. BHF is a 100% volunteer-staffed organization.
