Focus: HOPE

This is a 35 hour/week AmeriCorps VISTA position with Focus: HOPE in Detroit. It permits working a second job or attending school. Hours are often flexible and may be remote temporarily due to COVID. VISTAs build capacity for non-profit organizations that alleviate poverty.

Member Duties : This team member will support the introduction of sustainable improvements in the quality of education and training within Focus: HOPE 's Workforce Development and Education Division. The work will involve developing and implementing improved classroom practices, classroom management, and supportive educational management activities. There are four interrelated components of the work activities: Improving classroom teaching and learning strategies; effective, transparent and participatory school management; support and policy implementation; classroom management, coordination and observation. Focus: HOPE is a human service organization. Founded in 1968 in the wake of the 1967 Detroit riots by Father Willam T. Cunningham (1930-1997) and co-founder Eleanor M. Josaitis (1931-2011), Focus: HOPE unites a multicultural community in common efforts to overcome injustice and build racial harmony. Over the years, Focus: HOPE has initiated practical solutions to the problems of hunger, economic disparity, inadequate education, and racial divisiveness. Answers can be found in Focus: HOPE's technology training programs, educational and corporate partnerships, and food programs.
