First, you should know who you are dealing with. We are Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles, a 31 year old non-profit used furniture store in Oakland that supports programs for self-determination in the African / Black community.

We're just one institution of the amazing African People's Education and Defense Fund (APEDF.org)

Second, you should understand why we need you so desperately. Since the shutdown due to COVID-19 our business model, like so many others has had to shiiiiiift. We are used to doing things one way and now we really need to adjust.

From the small details like "Where do we keep our delivery forms so everyone can access them?" to the big questions about how people move in our space, we are changing everything.

Third, you should know what the donation of your time and skills will mean. Uhuru Furniture represents how the Black community can build its own economy, to support its own programs, to solve its own issues. We are part of creating economic power in the hands of the African community.

Economic self-reliance means self-determination. If you want to know what that looks like, just visit BlackPowerBlueprint.org. This is one project of APEDF that Uhuru Furniture is helping to make a reality!

We need your skills to adjust to a new model that incorporates in-person and virtual shoppers, in-person and virtual volunteers, in-person and virtual staff and everything that means.

Bottom line, if you are a professional organizer, please consider donating your time to benefit this important institution. Contact us and we can set up an in-person or virtual tour of our location to give you an overview of our project.

Thank you! Uhuru Means Freedom!
