About the Program
Embracing the true meaning of social responsibility, the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg is once again teaming up with our community to bring the spirit of Christmas to nearly 400 families and more than 800 children. For 30 consecutive years, this program has provided families in need with the joys of a traditional Christmas.
Creating a Safe Environment
The 2020 YMCA Neighbor to Neighbor Christmas Program will feature many modifications due to COVID-19. At the Y, our top priority is the safety of our participants, members, volunteers and staff. We've created online toy registries so that toy donations can be made from the safety of your home or office. Volunteer on-boarding events will be held virtually, and in-person events will be altered to allow for limited capacities, social distancing, and other safety precautions:
- Participants, volunteers and staff are asked to remain socially distanced from others whenever possible.
- Masks are required inside all YMCA facilities, in all common spaces. Masks are recommended outside Y facilities whenever social distancing is not possible.
- All YMCA staff receive special COVID-19 training on health and safety procedures and guidelines.
- The use of shared items is discouraged. Shared items and surfaces are regularly disinfected.
- The use of hand sanitizer is encouraged.
Saturday, December 5
Volunteers will join YMCA staff members to deliver Christmas trees from Anderson Lumber directly to families’ doorsteps. Along with a live, 6-foot Christmas tree, families receive all the necessary tree-trimming items that were prepared during our Bagging Day event.
Available volunteer positions are Tree Delivery Drivers and Passenger/helpers
December 14 - 17
Participating families will visit the Y to collect free toys from our toy room. In addition, families will receive a sports voucher for each child and a Publix gift card. This year, Toy Box shopping will be spread out over the course of a week to allow social distancing.
Available volunteer positions are Toy Box Elves and Table Monitors
For more information or to register to volunteer, please contact Christina at cedgeworth@stpeteymca.org
