By adopting a precinct/election district you can help bolster Hunger Free America’s non-partisan work to empower more Americans with lived experience of poverty and food insecurity to engage in the political process both by registering to vote and actually casting their ballot.
Key Activities:
- Report to the HFA Community Empowerment Manager
- Recruit and mobilize adults eligible to vote in a precinct/election district (neighborhood) - which will be assigned to you -- in which most household incomes are below $50,000 annually.
- Use prepared scripts, talking points, and outreach materials to phone call and/or text people to register voters and mobilize them to vote in a general election in a non-partisan manner.
Desired Assets and Skills:
- Any interested adult can do this, but previous experience in in social work, community organizing, electoral campaigns, public policy, marketing, and/or communications is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent writing, communication, research, and analysis skills.
- Commitment to Hunger Free America’s mission to end hunger in the United States.
Time Commitment: Flexible ~ 5 - 10 hours between October 1st and November 3rd
Training/Support Provided: The Community Empowerment Manager will support our volunteers by providing outreach materials and technical instruction for any task assigned.

HUNGER FREE AMERICA (formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we’ve adopted the motto: "Ending hunger lifts us all."
