Purpose:
To provide leadership to FFEN’s communications and marketing strategies to effectively share FFEN’s story with our supporters, food shelf and hunger relief partners, and the broader public. The Communications Committee’s focus is to increase engagement through FFEN’s website and Social Media platforms. The Committee is developing and implementing an annual communications plan with key metrics to measure success as well as developing processes to share media to increase the awareness of FFEN to the public.
Structure:
The Communications Committee will consist of up to seven members as well as FFEN’s Executive Director. At least two members will be current Board Members with additional members coming from the broader sector or community. Communications Committee members are approved annually by the Board of Directors. FFEN is currently seeking two candidates that have experience in SEO or Public Relations.
Qualifications:
- Commitment to FFEN’s Mission and Vision as well as our values for engagement.
- Current or previous experience in communications, marketing, social media or storytelling.
- 2-5 years of specialization in Search Engine Optimization or Public Relations
Time Commitment:
FFEN’s Communications Committee meets monthly for 1-2 hours. Total time commitment per month is up to 4 hours including meetings as well as prep work. A Committee term is two years with no term limit.

Foundation For Essential Needs (FFEN) is an entrepreneurial, innovative and nimble nonprofit focused on increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of local food shelves. FFEN engages skilled, pro-bono volunteers to offer pragmatic, no-cost consultation and equipment improvements to food shelves adapting to meet the changing needs of their community. Since 2013, FFEN has positively impacted over 200 food shelves in Minnesota. This local work informs FFEN’s broader efforts in supporting both professional development opportunities and advocating for systems change at the local, regional and statewide levels. FFEN’s multi-level approach is essential to creating a statewide hunger relief sector that ensures both equitable access to healthy food and respect for the dignity of those who receive it.
