Volunteer Position Purpose:
To develop effective storytelling techniques that share the stories of FFEN, local food shelves and the changing hunger relief system. Lead development web content that evolves how the broader public understands what a food shelf can look like and the critical stabilizer role it plays in a community.
Responsibilities:
- Story Creation: Meet with FFEN volunteers, partnering food shelves and sector peer organizations to gather background and insights to build into stories that can be highlighted on various FFEN platforms (website, FB, etc)
- E-Newsletter Development: Develop and implement e-newsletter communications out to key FFEN audiences; ensure brand alignment in all communications; utilize metrics to increase newsletter engagement.
Position Requirements:
- Comfortable talking with a wide variety of people to draw out and honor what makes each story unique
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, flexible work environment and take initiative to meet broad goals
- Familiarity with Wix
- Graphic design experience in Canva or PiktoChart is a plus

Time Requirements & Schedule:
- Total Time Requirement: 2-3 hours per week
- Time Commitment: 4 month
- Schedule: Flexible during FFEN Office Hours, 8am to 4pm Monday-Thursday

Foundation For Essential Needs (FFEN) is an entrepreneurial, innovative and nimble nonprofit focused on increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of local food shelves. FFEN engages skilled, pro-bono volunteers to offer pragmatic, no-cost consultation and equipment improvements to food shelves adapting to meet the changing needs of their community. Since 2013, FFEN has positively impacted over 200 food shelves in Minnesota. This local work informs FFEN’s broader efforts in supporting both professional development opportunities and advocating for systems change at the local, regional and statewide levels. FFEN’s multi-level approach is essential to creating a statewide hunger relief sector that ensures both equitable access to healthy food and respect for the dignity of those who receive it.
