The Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans ( CIANA ) in conjunction with NYC Health & Hospitals Corp is working to guarantee health care for all New Yorkers regardless of immigration status or ability to pay and to educate our local communities on the importance of masks, social distancing, and testing. CIANA is seeking passionate , outgoing , and organized Outreach Interns to participate in our NYC CARE and Test & Trace (T2) education/outreach efforts, two city-wide initiatives.

Queens, NY, IN PERSON
Outreach interns will support our Outreach Worker staff by going into communities, distributing fliers, and tabling at events and fairs, and completing additional outreach tasks as necessary, in order to ensure that all immigrant communities have access to healthcare and are informed of preventative measure against COVID-19. Additionally, interns will participate in remote Phone-Banking. Phone-Banking will take place when interns are not participating in in-person community outreach. This remote portion consists of making phone calls to our clients and/or potential clients, data entry, as well as data maintenance in Google Sheets.
- Pursuing or have already obtained a bachelor's degree. This is a VOLUNTARY internship. College credit may be offered.
- 1-5 years of experience.
- Keen awareness of immigration news and issues impacting immigrant communities.
- Fluent in Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Bengali, or Urdu.
- Experience with community involvement and/or outreach is preferred.
- Public speaking/ interpersonal communication skills.
- Volunteers must be 18 + years of age.

To provide special transitional services which will lead to the successful integration of newcomers into American society while continuing to maintain pride in their own cultural heritage .
Immigrants and refugees will be provided with the tools to emerge from poverty, isolation, and linguistic barriers to become full, productive American citizens. Our services promote family well-being and stability, provide counseling and support services, and expose newcomers to the social, economic and educational opportunities available to them. Professional social services will include ESOL and civics classes, citizenship preparation, adult literacy, child welfare and youth services, legal and immigration assistance, financial literacy, micro credit and finance, employment assistance, and information and referral services. Newcomers will gain a deeper understanding of western culture and how to incorporate its positive qualities into their lives without fear of losing their culture and identity; it will help them shape an identity that encompasses the best of both worlds and prevents their isolation and marginalization.
