The Blue Ridge Humane Society Thrift Store raises vital funds to improve the quality of life for animals in Henderson County. This important position of Thrift Store Greeter helps ensure the health and safety of our customers, staff members, and volunteers as well as maintaining smooth, efficient store operations.

Shifts are Tuesday-Saturday either 9:30 am - 1:00 pm or 1:00-4:30 pm

During your Greeter shift, you should:

  • Remain at your post for the duration of your shift.
  • Ensure that all customers are wearing masks and that they understand our organizational policies. No one is permitted to enter the store without an appropriate face covering. These should cover both the mouth and nose and must be worn at all times inside the store.
  • Encourage all who enter the store to utilize the hand sanitizing station immediately inside the entrance. This ensures that arriving customers’ hands are clean and germ-free.
  • Keep track of the number of people inside the store and permit entry as established capacity allows. Our current maximum capacity is 20 customers.
  • Maintain appropriate distance (6 feet) from customers waiting in line and entering/exiting the store.
  • Ensure that customers understand that they should enter and exit through the same door.
  • Maintain a calm and authoritative yet friendly and welcoming demeanor. You are the first point of contact for our customers. As such, it is vital that you are visible and clearly present yourself as a representative of our organization.
  • Request that the cashier call a staff member if a situation should arise, if a customer has any other questions, or if additional assistance is needed. Please remember that the store entrance should never be left unattended.
  • Be standing at attention whenever there are customers waiting in line and/or when customers are approaching the store. Standing also ensures that proper distancing is being followed; you can move as necessary to maintain appropriate distance. You may sit in the chair during times when no customers are waiting or approaching but please stand when customers are present.
