Freestore Foodbank

FSFB Logo - Orange

The Liberty Street Market is the largest neighborhood food pantry among all Freestore Foodbank member agencies. It is a choice food pantry offering clients foods of their choice according to family composition, nutritional needs, cooking availability, and tastes. Client choices are augmented by fresh produce, shelf-stable food items, and personal hygiene products. Homeless clients receive special boxes with foods that can be consumed without heating.

The COVID pandemic has pushed us to reconsider how we distribute holiday food items to our customers at the Liberty Street Market. Instead of handing out pre-made boxes of holiday food favorites, we will offer these items in the market and shoppers can select what they need. They will also receive a turkey in addition to the protein offered that day. Holiday food items will become available to our customers beginning Monday, November 1st through Wednesday, December 22nd. This new initiative will allow customers to shop for both their normal groceries and holiday food favorites.

Volunteer Task:

  • Cart Attendant (2 volunteers) - prep carts with shopping & plastic bags they give to the customer
  • Check Out Assistants (2 volunteers) - assist with unloading groceries from carts then place on the scale to be weighed. Handing out turkeys to customers.

About Freestore Foodbank

112 E Liberty Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202, US

Mission Statement

We provide food and services, create stability, and further self-reliance for people in crisis.

In the last 40 years, we've grown from one man's passion for helping his neighbors into one of the region's largest food banks.

We distribute over 10 million pounds of food annually in 20 counties in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana through a trusted network of over 400 local member agencies such as soup kitchens and shelters, food pantries, churches, daycare and senior centers, and many other community and social services organizations.

Unlike other food banks in the area, we operate a Client Services Center in Over-the-Rhine, which works to meet the needs of our community's most vulnerable citizens, including the homeless, the unemployed, the working poor, and families in crisis. By providing emergency food, we work to determine the root causes of poverty and food insecurity, and we are able to offer services aimed at creating self-reliance. When people come to us for food, we help them find the other things they may need -- a safe place to live, access to affordable healthcare, clothing or job skills and placement. For our work, food is not the end product, rather it is the beginning of a much larger conversation to help our community's citizens work toward self-reliance.
