Program Overview
Earn It! Keep It! Save It! (EKS) is a community organization partnership facilitated by United Way that provides free income tax assistance for low wage working families and individuals. Catholic Charities of Santa Rosa serves as a host location for these services throughout tax season.
Position Details
As a tax preparer, you will assist taxpayers as an IRS certified preparer at the Basic or Advanced level. No previous experience is required!
Responsibilities
Attend trainings through United Way and an orientation at Catholic Charities
Prepare returns that are within your certification level(s) and within the scope of the program
Provide high-quality tax return preparation in a timely manner to taxpayers who qualify for VITA assistance
Enter tax information into the TaxSlayer software
Obtain signatures for E-File authorization
Answer questions and/or use available resources to assist taxpayers
Maintain taxpayer privacy and confidentially standards
Skills
IRS certification through the IRS Link & Learn website (training and certification provided)
Comfortability working with clients from diverse backgrounds including those with limited English ability. (Interpreters will be available)
Spanish proficiency helpful, but not required
Comfortable with computer and software
*All volunteers must pass a background test and fingerprint screening facilitated by United Way

We provide over 20 programs of service to nearly 80,000 people each year. We welcome people of all faiths, races, gender, and sexual orientation--and we serve the entire region the Diocese of Santa Rosa touches--Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, Lake , Humboldt, and Del Norte counties. Catholic Charities is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
