The Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) program dates back to the establishment of the American Red Cross by Clara Barton in May 1881. Not only did the "Angel of the Battlefield" risk her life tending to soldiers wounded in the Civil War, she bolstered their morale by writing letters for them to send to their families. Today’s American Red Cross workers proudly carry on this tradition through the SAF program, which serves as a critical line of communication between the U.S Armed Forces and their families.
Our local South Florida Region Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces Department is very excited to be launching a partnership with Naples Community Hospital System. This program will expand our ability to deliver on our mission of providing care and comfort to our nation’s military heroes, not only while they serve, but throughout their entire lives. It is so important for local veterans to know that their service is not forgotten as well as to know about all the community resources that are available to them should they ever find themselves in need.

We have new opportunity in our Services To Armed Forces department and are looking to fill these positions asap! Volunteers will support hospitalized veterans during the Covid 19 environment by virtually conducting 'visitation’ phone calls to veterans at the Naples Community Hospital. Visits will consist of thanking the veterans for their service, identifying any immediate needs and providing information about local veteran service providers. You will provide care and comfort and build morale by reaching out with a simple check-in call 1-2 hours per week.
