You can still volunteer during this time and you don't have to leave your house!

During this time of COVID-19, hospice volunteers are sending hand- written note cards and are calling patients and their families. Hospice volunteers can visit patients in their homes if they are wearing the proper PPE (this is entirely up to the volunteer.) Volunteers do go through training. You can choose to be a patient volunteer or office volunteer. Patient volunteers can read, companion, do small chores for patients in their homes or facilities. Office volunteers can help with clerical work in the office.

The Volunteer Coordinator will work with you to customize your volunteering experience and to fit with your skills and availability. We even have virtual options and things that can be done from home.

There are so many volunteering opportunities that will match your skills and availability. It's up to you how little or how much you volunteer.

Benefits:

  1. Looks great on resumes!
  2. Use us as a reference!
  3. Gain medical experience!
  4. Obtain a sense of purpose and self-satisfaction!

Hospice volunteers are an essential part of helping people find hope and meaning in their last months of life. Contact Volunteer Coordinator, Kristy Aiken, about becoming a hospice volunteer at Amedisys. You must live within 75 miles of Roanoke VA.
