PACIFIC SYMPHONY

Pacific Symphony is the premier symphonic orchestra in Orange County, CA. Through exceptional musical performances, educational opportunities and community programming, Pacific Symphony inspires, engages and serves the Orange County community and Southern California region.

Like all nonprofit organizations, we need volunteers! We seek volunteers who are interested in giving back to the community while helping to spread the magic of orchestral music. Our volunteers enthusiastically advance the mission of Pacific Symphony through the contributions of their time, talent, resources, and ambassadorship. Our volunteers are the window to the Symphonic community and are a reflection of the diversity of interests and backgrounds that are found in Orange County.

We have an immediate need for volunteer mentors who play violin, viola or cello to work remotely with our Strings for Generations online program.

Presented by Pacific Symphony and the Irvine Chinese School, Strings for Generations provides a unique opportunity for students, family members and adults to learn about music, under the supervision of Symphony musicians.

Strings for Generations is geared toward student string players in grades 4-9, as well as family members or adults who join the ensemble on recorder or as string players.

Volunteer mentors are required to:
1.) play the violin, viola or cello at a High School level of competence
2.) be in High School (10th grade or above), college-age or adults
3.) help create a warm and welcoming environment for the students when on Zoom
4.) answer participant questions online
5.) help reinforce the teacher/coach's instructions
6.) assist the individual students as needed
7.) play and demonstrate passages and techniques on their instrument in the larger group (never solo)

Description

Pacific Symphony is an organization that aims to inspire, engage, and serve Orange County through exceptional music performances, education, and community programming. We lead a renaissance in the appreciation, accessibility, and impact of classical music in Orange County and the region, through creativity, responsiveness, and innovation. Led by Musical Director Carl St. Clair and founded in 1978 as a collaboration between California State University Fullerton (CSUF) and North Orange County community leaders, led by Marcy Mulville, Pacific Symphony is the largest orchestra formed in the United States in the last 50 years. It is recognized as an outstanding ensemble making strides on both the national and international scenes, as well as in its own community of Orange County California. Presenting more than 100 concerts annually, and a rich array of award-winning education and community programs, Pacific Symphony reaches more than 300,000 people each year, from school children to senior citizens.
