Helps Education Fund is providing one to one virtual tutoring support in grades 2-4 to students that have experienced reading loss due to not only Summer slide but COVID slide. Helps Education Fund focuses on improving educational equity by providing research-supported programs and services that are free or low-cost and meaningfully advance student learning. HELPS (Helping Early Literacy with Practice Strategies) is an evidenced based and research validated program that helps students with reading fluency and comprehension. The HELPS Program traditionally serves students who receive free/reduced lunch and/or are performing below adequate reading levels. HELPS is an evidence-based intervention proven to improve students' reading fluency. Reading fluency is one of five essential skills a student must acquire to become a successful reader, and is directly related to reading comprehension. Mastering this fundamental step is a significant tool in increasing student learning and closing achievement gaps. Students receive 1:1 instruction 3 times a week for 15-30 minutes from a trained tutor. The highly scripted program can easily be delivered by trained volunteers. To ensure implementation fidelity, each tutor receives coaching/support from a certified coach. HELPS tutors build strong relationships with their students and witness reading progress quickly with their students. HELPS has over 10 years of research supporting its effectiveness in increasing students' reading proficiency.

Description
Helps Education Fund is a nonprofit organization located in North Carolina. Through collaborative partnerships, we provide programs and services that meaningfully advance learning outcomes for students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12. These programs and services are evidence-based, easy to use, and free or low cost.
To promote educational equity, we focus our efforts on partnering with educators and community organizations that serve a high percentage of students who are economically disadvantaged and/or perform below adequate levels in core academic skills.
Helps Education Fund is committed to improving educational equity because inequitable education contributes to systems of oppression, poverty, and other undesirable circumstances that unfairly harm individuals, communities, and a collective society.
