Intake & Foster Assistant

ORGANIZATION: Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions

  • 6 people are interested

Taking in cats is a part of what we do. In fact, it’s one of the most important things any animal rescue does! This is when we check the health and temperament of every animal that comes into our care and helps us decide if they’re a good fit for the shelter or need foster care to really shine. We are looking for a volunteer to aid with our intake process and foster home communications. Some responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing foster applications and home visits (if needed)
  • Training new fosters & gathering supplies, maintaining phone/email communications
  • Prepare & send weekly medical schedule: vaccines, dewormer, S/Ns, etc. due or overdue
  • Assisting with intake process: review forms, aid with initial exam and vaccinations
  • Scanning paperwork into database, set reminders for vaccine due dates, rabies tags, etc.

Volunteers for this position are needed from Sunday to Thursday, 12pm to 6pm - though we can always work with your schedule and would still love your time, even if it’s just a few hours! We will provide 100% of the training needed for this position. All we ask is volunteers are:

  • Fit to stand, squat, bend, twist, and lift
  • Comfortable handling cats that are scared in a new environment and may need special handling
  • Able to use chemical cleaning solutions (to clean and disinfect the facility)
  • Experienced in cat handling and behaviors - or open and interested to know more!
  • Familiar with basic technology, i.e. phones, computers, printers

At our facility, we often have a revolving door of kitties coming and going (which is a great thing!) and need extra hands to help us efficiently examine our cats, get them where they need to be, and help our foster families care for our animals. Visit homewardboundcats.org to learn more about us and fill out a volunteer application!

About Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions

Location:

2675 E Flamingo Rd, Suite 3, Las Vegas, NV 89121, US

Mission Statement

To maximize feline lifesaving in Las Vegas and beyond by supporting both people and cats.

Description

Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support and resources to both cats and people in our community.

As a first priority, we strive to provide counseling, information, and access to services to keep cats in their homes and with the people who love them.

However, if cats cannot stay with their families or in their neighborhoods, we take great pride in providing a safe and caring placement program for cats who need us most. We prioritize our intake on cats most at risk - owned cats in need of rehoming; kittens who need specialized care; and cats who have been abandoned, are sick or injured, or are not thriving in the community.

We are committed to ensuring the highest level of attention and care for cats in accordance with the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare and industry best practices; where each policy, procedure, and decision is based on compassion, the best available science, and the best interest and welfare of each cat.

We also focus on positively impacting the lives of our volunteers, employees, guests, and community members by cultivating a collaborative environment based on respect and a non-judgmental approach to services.

With a holistic approach to providing the right support to fill resource gaps in our community, keeping cats with those who love them, and caring for and finding appropriate placement for cats that truly need rehoming, Homeward Bound maximizes feline lifesaving and improves the lives of our community’s people and cats.
