Petco weekend adoption events are one of the most fulfilling (and craziest) things we do at Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions (HBCA). It’s primetime for our organization to get visibility with the public and, of course, adopt out lots of cats! Busy doesn’t begin to describe the many aspects of the public, the organization, and Petco staff that need to be handled and executed for a great experience for all. We are looking for a Petco lead counselor and site manager for these weekend events. Some responsibilities include:

• Reviewing adoption applications pre-event, matching adopters with cats/kittens, and using proper judgment to approve/deny adopters based on HBCA requirements
• Preparing and organizing event set-up, supply delivery, event takedown
• Working with our foster coordinator to arrange times for cats/kittens to be dropped off or picked up (if not adopted), and ensuring all paperwork is ready and available for a seamless adoption process
• Working with our volunteer coordinator to recruit volunteers, develop roles to match event needs, and provide on-site training as needed to team members
• Adhering to Petco rules and following COVID guidelines
• Maintaining a polite, informative, and courteous demeanor despite sometimes overwhelming environmental circumstances

We know, it’s a lot! Yet this individual reflects our organization to the public - and helps find homes for our cats every weekend. This position is Saturday & Sunday specific, typically from 10am - 4pm (hours change depending on cat availability). All we ask is this volunteer is:

• Fit to stand, squat, bend, twist, and lift approx. 50 lbs
• Capable of working with diverse populations whether the public, donors, volunteers, management, or Petco staff; maintain and build upon professional relationships
• Able to work in a fast-paced, high-stress, multi-tasking environment
• An excellent communicator: answering questions of staff, adopters, volunteers, and expressing respectfully expectations or needs
• Comfortable using best judgment to match adopters with cats - and declining adopters if necessary

Homeward Bound organizes dozens of weekend Petco adoption events over the course of a year - and these events send hundreds of cats and kittens to their new homes!
