ORGANIZATION: Fortitude Careers

  • 2 people are interested

We are seeking an experienced Journeyman Contractor / General Contractor, who is interested in helping to shape the organization program by contributing trade expertise and carrying out our mission of teaching trade skills to youth. The ideal volunteer candidate should have experience in the construction industry, have strong people skills, a broad understanding of trade practices, and a startup - roll up your sleeves and get to work mentality. This could be the perfect role for someone who isn't quite ready to retire and wants to have an impact on the next generation of contractors.

The program is pivoting to meet the needs of youth who have been sidelined by COVID; young adults who were working their way through high school, but who got sidelined half way through their year and who can't find the momentum to get back on track. Teaching life mastery skills and trade skills is our purpose; getting young people back to a place of hope is our highest ambition. We'd love to hear from you if you are interested in being a part of our team.

Location:

Mission Statement

Fortitude is a comprehensive youth and community development program that addresses several core community issues: job readiness, employment, mental health challenges, diminishing crime and poverty, and individual leadership development. It addresses the status of unemployed youth who have no clear path to a productive future to support their lives, families, and contribute to their communities

Description

Fortitude is a program in service to the community, in which young people learn the skills to build a career in the construction field, and have the opportunity to develop those skills by building "ADU’s" (accessory dwelling units or tiny houses). The ADU’s will be offered to municipalities (in accordance with established regulations,) to be used as housing for those experiencing homelessness and other low-income people, often serving beneficiaries from the types of communities where the participants themselves have grown up.
