Volunteer Drivers - Thanksgiving and Holiday Package Deliveries
Gay Men's Health Crisis
As a result of COVID-19, GMHC building operations are closed and we are providing services remotely to our clients. For everyone’s safety, we have decided that our holiday events in their usual form will not be taking place this year. This includes our Thanksgiving and Holiday Dinners. We will miss these festive community events, not to mention the delicious food.
The good news is that we are working on a plan to provide our clients with holiday gift bags and vouchers to purchase turkeys during the holiday season. We hope this will bring some GMHC holiday cheer into our clients’ homes during this challenging time.
This is where you come in! We are looking for volunteers to deliver the holiday packages to our clients in November and December. Before reaching out with interest, please note the following requirements. You:
- can attend a zoom GMHC Volunteer Orientation on October 14th, 10:30am-12:00pm or October 29th, 3:30-5:00pm.
- have a vehicle with proof of registration and insurance.
- can volunteer during a weekday.
- can volunteer during business hours - 9:00am-5:00pm.
- are comfortable driving throughout four boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx).
Volunteers will be given a mapped-out route of 20-25 deliveries. These will be contactless deliveries and we will provide you with masks, gloves and hand sanitizer.
Note - This is an individual volunteer opportunity for individuals 18+ years old. Volunteers will not be paired up to drive together. If you have another adult that you would like to bring along in your car to help with the deliveries, they will also need to attend a GMHC Volunteer Orientation. Please let us know if you will be volunteering with someone else, so we can plan accordingly.
For more information about the service dates available and how to sign-up, please email Shelley Levine at ShelleyL@gmhc.org
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
