Mental Health Community Centers, Prospect House
MHCCI is is a local non-clinical nonprofit that helps adults managing mental health. We are in need of 2 volunteer facilitators to promote social and wellness skills in a small group setting. Sessions are typically 40-60 minutes in length. You will be part of a support team providing opportunities for members to increase their quality of life. Studies indicate increasing social skills deficits is an essential component of healthy living. The curriculum is available for use and your energy and creativity will be highly valued. If you have any experience with psychology or sociology, we want to be sure to utilize your knowledge in helping those with a mental health diagnosis learn coping skills, education within their diagnosis and psychology overall. Please reach out!

MHCC provides a safe environment, promoting wellness, for individuals managing mental health.
MHCC provides opportunities to enhance emotional health through situation-solution discussions and support groups, goal setting and performance sessions, a friendly caring atmosphere, and social activities to assist in problem-solving. We also offer vocational and educational training opportunities such as computer training, cooking, nutrition, creative arts, self-esteem building activities, independent living skills, etc. Social and recreational activities offered include beach/picnic outings, theater, library, physical fitness, sporting events, bowling, visits to local attractions.
At MHCC, peers support one another in reciprocal relationships. Peers have "been there, done that" and can relate to others who are now in a similar situation. Research has shown that peer-run self-help groups yield improvement in psychiatric symptoms resulting in decreased hospitalization, larger social support networks and enhanced esteem and social functioning.
