ORGANIZATION: TRANS EMPOWERMENT PROJECT

Volunteer Communications Coordinator Role Description

Overview:
Trans Empowerment Project (TEP) is seeking a passionate and creative Volunteer Communications Coordinator to enhance our online presence and engagement with our community. This role is crucial in boosting our visibility and supporting our mission of empowerment through strategic social media outreach and effective communication.

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours a week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Social Media Management:

    • Develop and coordinate engaging, original content that promotes TEP’s mission and programs in collaboration with team leaders.

    • Maintain and enhance the visual and textual layout of our social media accounts.

    • Implement innovative strategies to attract more supporters and donors.

    • Analyze engagement metrics to optimize content and posting schedules.

    • Use strategic planning to devise an impactful social media calendar.

    • Engage with our community by communicating with followers, responding to queries promptly, and managing comments and feedback.

    • Propose and introduce new features to increase brand awareness, such as promotions and competitions.

  • Communications:

    • Craft and dispatch compelling email communications to our general mailing list, ensuring consistency at least twice a month.

    • Develop content that aligns with our social media efforts to provide a cohesive message across platforms.

    • Monitor the effectiveness of email campaigns and adjust strategies as needed to enhance engagement and reach.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A commitment to the values and mission of TEP.

  • Excellent writing and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.

  • Experience in social media management and content creation.

  • An understanding and sensitivity to the issues faced by our communities, especially Disabled 2 Spirit, Trans, Intersex, and Gender Expansive (2TIGE) individuals, as well as BIPOC.

  • Creative thinking with a proactive approach to problem-solving and community engagement.

This role can be effectively managed by a dedicated volunteer, or even better, a small team of volunteers who can share the responsibilities. If you want to be a part of that small but impactful team of volunteers, read on to find out how this collaborative approach can work - it not only eases the workload but also brings diverse perspectives to our content, which is at the heart of TEP's values of inclusion and community support. Here's how:

  • Divide Responsibilities: Allocating different tasks such as content creation, scheduling, and community management to different volunteers can make the role more manageable.

  • Time Commitment: For a single volunteer, dedicating 3-5 hours a week can facilitate a basic level of engagement and content management. However, for a broader and more proactive strategy, we'll need additional volunteers to share the workload.

  • Collaborative Scheduling: If the role is shared, we’ll work from a collaborative calendar where volunteers can mark their availability and tune into the workflow, which can ensure consistent coverage and content creation.

  • Regular Check-ins: Regular check-ins can help keep everyone aligned with the aims and mission of TEP, ensuring our collective voice remains strong and unified.

  • Flexibility and Support: It's important to remember that our volunteers are offering their time alongside other personal commitments. Our aim is always to be flexible and to provide support to ensure that the volunteer experience is rewarding and empowering.

  • Empowerment Through Training: For those who may be less tech-savvy, we provide the necessary training and support to ensure they feel confident and empowered in their role.

By embracing these principles, we can foster a volunteer environment that is both effective and respectful of the time and energy of our volunteers, whilst maintaining the impactful presence TEP strives for in our communities.

About TRANS EMPOWERMENT PROJECT

Location:

P.O. Box 12233, Jacksonville, NC 28546, US

Mission Statement

The mission of Trans Empowerment Project is to elevate trans and gender non-conforming communities, particularly trans people of color, out of crisis and into empowerment through action, advocacy, and resource-building.

Description

Founded in 2016 by a multi-racial trans man, Trans Empowerment Project has helped over 1500 trans and gender non-conforming people connect with the resources they need. We provide a wide range of programs and services to folks in these communities, with a particular focus on trans people of color, and we have continued to expand to address new problems as they arise.

Our programs and services include:

  • inTRANSitions - emergency response program that can help clients with food, clothing, HRT assistance, or transportation away from abusive/non-affirming situations. This is usually accomplished within 48 hours of the client's first contact.
  • Trans Employment Project - program that aims to connect trans job seekers with inclusive employers. We help clients put together resumes, prepare for interviews, and connect with potential employers. We also work with companies to help them craft more inclusive non-discrimination policies.
  • Help for Allied Loved Ones (H.A.L.O) - a program designed to provide support and education to folks who want to be a better ally to a trans or gender non-conforming loved one.
  • Inmate Advocacy - this program works with incarcerated trans folks to ensure they have access to our resources.
We welcome all volunteers, trans and cisgender, and we would love to have YOU as part of our team.
