Overview:
Advocates Abroad MHPSS Team is accepting applications from qualified psychologists, trauma therapists, and other medical professionals available to provide psychosocial services remotely and with field teams based in Greece, Italy, Turkey. Advocates on this team primarily assess and evaluate refugee clients for vulnerability in preparation for the asylum interview. The assessments take place remotely (over Skype or phone) or on-site. These Advocates further provide crisis intervention assistance, such as suicide prevention, for all refugees and asylum seekers. Lastly, this team of Advocates provides general mental health and trauma support to the other Advocates volunteers, particularly field-based teams.
Commitment & Duration:
- The position requires active service for a minimum, 15 hours per week.
- The duration of the position is for a three-month minimum.
- Training is provided.
Qualification:
- Fluency in English, with fluency in Farsi, Arabic, or French highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment toward refugee and asylum seeker aid is mandatory, particularly in the European Union.
- Integrity, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to maintain confidentiality is mandatory.
- Degree and license in a relevant field, such as nursing, social work, psychology, or trauma therapy.

Advocates is a legal aid and MHPSS non-profit that has supported refugees and asylum applicants in the European Union and elsewhere in the world, since it was founded in 2016 by an American lawyer who saw that lawyers could make a difference to refugees seeking asylum and safety in Greece and other European Union states. Over 1000 Advocates volunteer lawyers, MHPPS specialists, and interpreters have served in field missions and remotely to help over 40,000 refugees. The heart of Advocates mission is to support people applying for protection to protect them from being returned to deadly threats in the countries they fled.
Description
Advocates Abroad is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to upholding human rights of refugees and asylum applicants.
Advocates, both field & remote, are local & foreign attorneys, interpreters, asylum experts and medical professionals.
Since 2016, Advocates teams have been trained and deployed to various locations to provide critical legal aid to thousands of refugees and asylum seekers in the EU and Middle East.
Advocates Abroad does not accept any form of compensation from any refugee or asylum seeker for any service provided.
Advocates Abroad serves all refugees and asylum seekers in need, without discrimination of background or identity.
