Open Volunteer Day Volunteer

Background
Rebuilding Together Seattle (RTS) helps ensure safe and healthy living conditions for vulnerable populations throughout the Greater Seattle region. We are a nonprofit that offers home repairs and maintenance at no cost to the people we serve. Our mission is to help families and individuals remain in their homes and to preserve the character and culture of our local communities.

Volunteer Role Description
Open Volunteer Days are opportunities for individual volunteers to perform a home repair project in a team based environment. These projects are a welcoming and inclusive opportunity for volunteers of all skill levels to make a positive impact in the community, as well as gain experience with new skills and meet fellow volunteers. Volunteers will work with RTS Staff and Project Leaders to complete repairs, such as basic carpentry, painting, weatherization, flooring, minor electrical, and minor plumbing, among others that are critical to the safety and health of those we serve. No repair experience is necessary-just your enthusiasm!

Location
The location for volunteering will change from project to project, and we will provide specific location addresses and other site information to volunteers prior to Open Volunteer Days.

Time Commitment
RTS does not have time commitment requirements for volunteers because we understand that our volunteers have varying degrees of time that they are able to contribute. That said, Open Volunteer Day Volunteers will typically participate on a few projects a year. Open Volunteer Day Projects occur once a month, and usually take around six to seven hours to complete.

Mission Statement

Together, we serve Seattle by repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives. We strive to provide safe homes and communities for everyone.

Description

Rebuilding Together Seattle is the leading community revitalization partner focused on addressing substandard, unsafe, and unhealthy housing conditions. As part of the national Rebuilding Together network, our 140 affiliates repair 10,000 homes annually with the help of nearly 100,000 volunteers. We leverage resources and partnerships to offer home repair and modification services to low-income homeowners and nonprofit facilities at entirely no cost to them. Our coordinated approach between residents, volunteers, municipalities, nonprofits, businesses, foundations, and other partner organizations builds and sustains safe, healthy, and thriving communities. More than housing repair, we improve health outcomes, stabilize housing and homeownership, and reduce the need for new affordable housing. Our work preserves treasured memories and restores social networks, while celebrating community through the strengthening of our neighborhoods. Together we repair homes, revitalize communities, and rebuild lives.
