All Blue Ridge Humane Society's foster volunteers help Blue Ridge Humane Society achieve their mission of providing high quality life for animals in Henderson County and surrounding regions through adoption, outreach, and education.
The Cat/Kitten Foster Volunteer is responsible for the daily care of foster cats and kittens in their home under the direction and care of the Blue Ridge Humane Society. Effective listening, communication, and animal handling is required. Cat/Kitten Foster Volunteers must complete online orientation and phone all with the Foster Care Manager prior to being approved for fostering.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Including but not limited to:
Adhere to cat/kitten foster training manual policies and procedures,
Daily care of foster including providing appropriate housing and basic care, feeding, socializing, enrichment, and administering required medications as needed
Isolate from owned animals from foster/s for minimum 14 days or as directed by BHRS
Follow any specific behavior plans for adult cats provided by Behavior and Training manager and medical plans provided by the Quality Care Manager
Provide specific information on how the animal/s behave in the home to adoption staff and potential adopters
Meets with potential adopters for virtual meet and greets using Zoom or Facetime platform
Transport foster to scheduled medical appointments
Follow contactless procedures for pick up and drop off at the Adoption Center.
Observe and report any changes in behavior, health or temperament to foster care staff immediately.
Responsiveness to contact via email and/or phone call from Adoption Center staff
Understanding and acceptance of BRHS’ adoption procedures and protocols.
Complete any required training provided by BRHS staff or third party organization.

Maintain a humane attitude at all times towards the animals in your care; must be knowledgeable of proper animal handling
Basic understanding of animal behavior, to ensure your safety and in preventing a possible animal bite
Willingness to provide supervision of all interactions between foster animals and any children in the home
Completion of online orientation and phone all with Foster Care Manager
Ability and willingness to follow medical and/or behavior plan instructions
Reliable transportation for transporting foster animals to medical appointments
Must share Blue Ridge Humane Society’s commitment to animals
Highly motivated and self-directed
Ability to work with a diverse population and establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with the public, donors, volunteers, staff and management in a respectful and courteous manner
Must love animals AND people!
