Coach- NJ Senior Step Team

We are looking for a creative and patient coach to work with our new competitive Girls' Step Team (ages 12 to 18) until June, 2021. There are currently five girls. The team is being trained to perform in shows and parades and will also be prepared for entry-level competitions. Our first performance is slated to be at the Prudential Center in early Spring, depending on the pandemic.

Our teams are expected to only work virtually starting in January. Coaches will need to be available on Thursdays from 5pm to 6pm and should also be available on Saturdays virtually from 1pm to 3pm.

We will examine the safety and comfort of returning to an indoor practice for February. If this happens, our indoor practices will be held on Saturday afternoons at the Rahway YMCA in the Downtown Area of Rahway, New Jersey. Coaches who are uncomfortable with in person practices can elect to just coach online. We should note that the time slot is unknown at this time, as the venue may need to change us around to accommodate their social-distancing mandates.

Your responsibility would be to choreograph original step routines and teach the girls and to work with other division coaches to prepare the company for competitions, parades and performances. You would videotape yourself breaking down the choreography and we would upload it to their private online Zoom page for them to learn on their own. On the day of scheduled practices, the girls would log on and you can watch them do the choreography - offering critiques as they step.

We will consider a current high school senior or recent high school graduate. This opportunity is ideal for someone who needs community service credit. STEP TEAM EXPERIENCE either on a church, community-based, school or fraternal step team IS REQUIRED. Coaching experience is not required. Hip-Hop Dance experience is a strong plus (as we often are called upon to also dance as part of our competitive routine).
