We are looking for a creative and patient coach to work with our small Step Team (girls ages 12 to 18) until June, 2021. We will consider a recent high school graduate who has significant step team experience. This team is small - five girls.
We have two practices each week. One outdoor and one online. Our outdoor practice is every Saturday from 11:30am to 1pm (in Downtown Rahway at the Railroad Station). Our online practice is on Thursdays from 5pm to 6pm via Zoom. In the event of rain or very cold weather, our Saturday practice would be conducted online from 5pm to 6pm via Zoom. Coaches who are uncomfortable practicing outside can lead the Thursday online practice.
Whenever we are allowed to return indoors (likely in January) - our indoor practices are every Saturday from 4pm to 6pm at the Rahway YMCA in the Downtown area of Rahway (about three blocks away from the Railroad Station). If a coach is uncomfortable with returning to an indoor practice, he/she can continue to lead the online practice at 5pm (as we imagine there might be steppers who are uncomfortable as well).
Your responsibility would be to choreograph original routines and teach the girls and to work with other division coaches to prepare the company for competitions and performances. In a virtual state, you would videotape yourself breaking down the choreography and we would upload it to their private online Zoom page for them to learn on their own. On the day of scheduled practices, the girls would log on and you can watch them do the choreography - offering critiques as they step.
Interested candidates should respond letting us know about their step experience and any burning questions that they have. Experience as a coach is not required; however, you must have had experience as a stepper with a community based, school, church or fraternal step team. We will respond immediately. Thank you for your interest and please stay safe and sane.
