Have you ever considered becoming a volunteer usher for South Coast Repertory? You get to see our award winning professional performances while providing a valuable service to the community. The assistance our volunteer ushers supply is a vital part of the theatrical experience for our patrons and is very rewarding for our volunteers. Ushers see an entire season of theatre free-of-charge while mingling with other theatre lovers.

Usher at South Coast Repertory and experience a season that includes the work of America's hottest new playwrights as well as plays chosen from the repertoire of the most beloved classics. Ushers may volunteer for one stage or all three. Additionally ushers may become SUB's and pick up ushering shifts as they become available.

Ushers have duties before, during and after a performance. They help seat patrons, scan tickets, distribute programs, sell items from our concession stand and SCR merchandise in our Theatre Shop. During the performance, ushers are inside the theatre to watch the show. They may sit in designated areas during the performance if seats are available.

Ushers at SCR are expected to act in a professional manner. This includes: arriving on time and on the dates they are schedule; greeting patrons in a friendly and courteous manner; treating other ushers and staff in the same courteous manner; and following the guidelines set forth in this handbook. Ushers must be able to lift, walk, listen, see and stand to perform their duties. Ushers at SCR are able to see the shows for which they are ushering. While an actual seat is not guaranteed, most performances have seating available for ushers. The usher uniform consist of black pants or skirt (no shorter than 3" above the knee), white collared shirt, black long sleeved jacket or cardigan, black closed toed shoes, and a black tie for men. The usher call time is one hour and thirty minutes prior to curtain for all Segerstrom Stage, Argyros Stage and for all Theatre for Young Audience performers.
