we have just completed a pivot of our Solidarity Bank-- our weekly food distribution in which we provide despensas (food share boxes) to about 500 families in South Philadelphia and need your help! The new phase, which we are looking to implement on October 5th, will require volunteer assistance through a small prep team, drivers, and neighborhood captains.
Prep Team: We need a small group of volunteers to help us unload produce boxes from the pallets they arrive in, add in any additional resources, and help us load boxes into the cars of Drivers. We are looking for volunteers for the Prep Team for Mondays before noon and will confirm the exact time window this coming week.
Drivers: We will need volunteers to drive over food shares to our neighborhood captains in South Philly. Drivers will no longer be needed to distribute boxes at individual houses. Drivers will meet us at the Fleisher parking lot and load their car with the amount of boxes that a neighborhood captain has signed up for (i.e. 20 boxes to be sent to a house at 8th and Porter). We are looking for Drivers to volunteer for 1-2 hour shifts on Mondays before noon and will confirm the exact time window this coming week.
Neighborhood Captains: We will need individuals living in South Philadelphia to volunteer their house/porch as a place where surrounding community members could go pick up their food share without any physical contact. Neighborhood captains will receive a list of community members that will be coming by, and will be ensuring that everyone receives one box per family. We will provide clear details and steps on how to facilitate contactless pick-up and ensure members are aware of the process. If interested in becoming a neighborhood captain, please let us know your address and how many boxes you believe you could distribute safely from your home. We are looking for Captains to volunteer on Mondays, with food share boxes arriving in the early afternoon and pickup occurring through the day into the evening.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
